TAPU, Title Deed

TAPU is the Title Deed for Turkish real estate ownership.

TAPU, the title deed, is a legal document that establishes an individual’s unambiguous and irrefutable ownership rights to property acquired in Turkey.

Once the purchase agreement has been concluded, financing conditions have been fulfilled, and all required formalities have been completed, the real estate transaction can be processed.

The real estate agency, acting under a power of attorney from the client, will submit all relevant documents to the local governmental property registration authority (the Cadastre and Title Deed Office, known as Tapu) in the city and district where the property is located, for verification of their legality and authenticity.

Upon verification of the authenticity and legality of the submitted documents, the Title Deed (Tapu) is issued as conclusive evidence of the new owner’s legal right to the property.

When purchasing real estate in Turkey, the full purchase price must be paid before the buyer receives the Title Deed (Tapu).

The ownership of the property registered in the Tapu can be held by one or more owners, either individuals or legal entities.
